UCAR

At the core of our work at NSF NCAR and UCAR are the values that underlie our institutional culture: scientific integrity, collaboration and partnerships, innovation and agility, transparency and open access, and fiscal accountability.

These values also shape the core of our ethics: both institutional and individual. As a publicly supported organization, UCAR is charged with the public trust. We must commit ourselves to spending federal money and other funds entrusted to us wisely and ensuring that our work is honest and above reproach.

Report ethics concerns

We encourage you to report any ethics concerns you may have, which include any unethical activity, such as fraud, financial impropriety, sexual harassment, retaliation against a whistleblower, and more. Anyone — including employees, collaborators, and vendors — may make an anonymous report through the UCAR EthicsPoint Hotline, a service run by a third party. (Read our EthicsPoint FAQ for more details.)

Beyond reporting ethical violations, our staff have a range of additional options, listed below, to express concerns and get questions answered. These avenues are appropriate for a wide range of issues, including questions about decisions made by leadership, concerns about workplace culture, anonymous suggestions for the UCAR president, conflict with a supervisor, struggles with work-life balance, and many others.

EthicsPoint acts as a confidential and independent third-party provider to send your report automatically to UCAR. Unless you identify yourself, all reports received by EthicsPoint are anonymous.

Additional options for staff

Staff who have other questions and concerns have a range of additional options beyond using the UCAR EthicsPoint Hotline: 

  1. DELPHI Q&A SERVICE: Ask management about the organization's policies and practices in a confidential manner.
  2. OMBUDS OFFICE: Meet with an independent, trained Ombuds person who can offer informal assistance to employees and professional visitors to help resolve issues related to their employment or appointment.
  3. HUMAN RESOURCES: Employees can log in to contact a Human Resources manager with any questions or concerns.
  4. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: All employees (including casuals) and their dependents are eligible for the EAP benefit, which provides a vast range of services that includes crisis counseling and support.
  5. PRESIDENT'S ANONYMOUS SUGGESTION BOX: Any employee can log in to submit suggestions to the UCAR President anonymously via a webform that will strip away all identifying information.
