Our onsite resources are designed to support your overall being for staff and visitors. From gender neutral restrooms to office ergonomics, we offer a variety of services and resources to meet all needs.

Resources for employees and families

Parental Leave

UCAR provides 12 weeks of paid parental leave to provide time for bonding with a new child within the first year after delivery or placement for adoption or foster care. This benefit is available for the birth, non-birth, adoptive, and foster-care parents. Employees are eligible on day one of employment for the parental leave benefit.

Childcare Resources

UCAR employees and employees with families are eligible to participate in a variety of programs designed to assist with work-life balance. UCAR employees can save 10% on standard weekly tuition at KinderCare Learning Centers, Champions before and after school programs, and participating KinderCare Child Care Centers. UCAR provides the Bright Horizons programs for back up childcare and elder care referral as well as other family and parenting resources.

Nursing rooms

UCAR and NSF NCAR buildings are all breastfeeding friendly. A breastfeeding parent may feed their child anywhere they have the right to be within our buildings, in accordance with Colorado law.

Employees and visitors may access any of the following rooms for pumping or breastfeeding needs:

At Mesa Lab, the rooms are accessed by keycard (visitors: please see the front desk; employees: please contact lactation-info@ucar.edu to have this set up). Access is by physical key at locations other than Mesa Lab. Physical keys are available from the campus front desk.

If any employee needs a mini refrigerator for their office to store milk and pump parts, please reach out to lactation-info@ucar.edu.

Neurodiversity accommodations library

The Neurodiversity at NSF NCAR/UCAR (NAN) ERG offers an accommodations library, including physical resources such as headphones, lighting options, fidget toys, and many other items that anyone in the organization can check out temporarily to help them identify which accommodations are helpful. A library checkout is NOT intended to be a permanent solution. NaN has a compiled list of where you can acquire any of their items for your continued use.

Event Services and Dietary Restrictions

Health, Environment & Safety Services (HESS) Ergonomics

HESS provides a variety of ergonomics & human factors support services.

  • Ergonomic support is available for onsite, hybrid, and remote computer workstation setups.  
  • Human factors design review is available to assist with new, modified, and existing equipment and facility installations to ensure design for maintainability and design for installation, operation, and removal.
