UCAR

UCAR’s Vision for our workplace is to be an employer of choice for people from all backgrounds and identities, and to integrate those myriad perspectives through intentional policies and practices that promote belonging and lead to organizational excellence throughout our research and operations.

As an organization, we are committed to fostering a workforce that employs and respects people across all identities and at all levels, removing barriers that prevent people from fair participation in our organization, and building a workplace culture where everyone belongs and feels supported and empowered. It’s the right thing to do for our workforce, and it’s the right thing to do for our mission: individuals from a variety of backgrounds and identities who are supported and empowered can work together to create more innovative and expansive questions and solutions. Together, we are better positioned to solve the toughest and most complex scientific challenges facing our planet.

UCAR’s Office for Access, Culture, and Opportunity (OACO) is responsible for setting the direction of UCAR’s ACO strategic planning, but many offices are leading the charge around creating an organization that is fair, welcoming, and supportive. OACO partners closely across the entire organization to weave these principles into everything our organization does. This website represents the whole of UCAR’s commitment and initiatives, not only those run through OACO, NSF NCAR’s Collaborative Opportunities for Research Engagement Office (CORE), or UCP’s Access, Culture, and Opportunity liaison.

These are our four strategic goals as an organization:

Goal 1: A highly talented workforce embracing myriad identities - ensuring fair and equal access and opportunity to people of all identities at all levels of our organization.

Goal 2: A welcoming, ethical, and kind workplace - Fostering a workplace culture that promotes community, respect, and psychological safety for all, where we are all encouraged and valued in bringing our talents, skills, and ideas to our mission, no matter our job title.

Goal 3: Ethical partnerships - Partnering with others through respectful and thoughtful practices; working with communities with less access to resources in mutually supportive and trusted relationships to enhance and drive co-created scientific research.

Goal 4: Accountability and metrics - Measuring our impact, committing to transparency, and being accountable to our staff, our partner communities, and to society.
