UCAR

As a Next Gen Policy Fellow, you will spend time collaborating with and learning from UCAR’s Government Relations team. You will have the opportunity to combine your expertise in Earth System Sciences with the skills needed for effective advocacy and science policy development.  These skills might include hearing summarization, legislative analysis, drafting scientific memos, and the development of policy briefings. Fellows often pursue their Fellowship Visits at UCAR’s Government Relations office in Washington DC to take advantage of proximity to Capitol Hill. During their Fellowship Visits, Fellows can accompany the UCAR Government Relations team to briefings and meetings with legislators and other stakeholders, collaborate with UCAR scientists on the development of material for use at Congress, and build skill and capacity in the work of a science policy expert.

Policy Fellows have the opportunity to flex their Fellowship Visits to take advantage of unique opportunities facilitated by this program such as attending the American Meteorological Society’s Policy Colloquium, and/or conducting a formal 6 month internship on Capitol Hill, funded by UCAR.
